creative artworker image by Kerry EarlThe role of a creative artworker is a highly skilled and diverse one, with tasks ranging from curating and creating corporate designs, to touching up typography and restructuring image libraries.

As a naturally artistic person, the creative artworker is a valuable member of any studio design team, thanks to their unbridled passion for creative imagery and endless supply of ideas. Creative artworkers know that in brainstorming, there is no such thing as a bad idea.

Providing skilled and technically precise input and support to their agency or design studio, a creative artworker’s role often grows to include providing artistic direction on projects, strategic planning and creative and promotional marketing services.

The role does not necessarily entail many analytic or data-led projects, however as clients may specialise in these areas, being flexible enough to learn more about unfamiliar subjects is often a necessary requirement.

Senior creative artworkers are also expected to be the main point of contact for the artwork department of the studio or company, as well as work closely with the team as a whole to fallow designs and artworks from their conception to final sign-off.

Skills a creative artworker needs:

Good experience in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

Good communication skills to ensure planning schedules run smoothly.

A good understanding of brand and corporate guidelines.

Collaborative skills to work closely with senior account managers and account executives as well as the client.

Great progress reporting skills at every stage of the design and artwork process.

Methodical approach to archiving images and artwork.

Experience in creating digital art and assets (such as web banners).

Creative artworkers are chosen for their creative panache and fastidious nature, organisational skills and attention to detail.

Top Tip for success as a creative artworker:
Some agencies will also favour applicants with an outside interest in photography, film-making or other art-related hobbies.

How much does a creative artworker earn?

The starting salary for a creative artworker can range from between £20,000 – £25,000 per year. Senior creative artworkers and studio managers often earn up to £40,000 per year.
