There are 23 placements available from seven companies. The participating companies are Argos, Greggs, Hilton Worldwide, ScottishPower, Starbucks, Timpson and Virgin Media. The placements are all for an initial period of three months, except for a one-year apprenticeship from Virgin Media.
You can apply for the placements made available through Up for Hire, but the deadline for applications is midnight on Tuesday 27 September 2011. For more information on the criteria and how to apply, see the BBC website.
The TV show will be presented by Richard Bacon from BBC Radio 5 Live. The point of the show is to look at the challenges facing the job seekers in today’s market.
Ken McMeikan, chief executive of Greggs, said in a comment to HR Magazine: “One example of the challenges of unemployment is that there are nearly one million 16-24 year olds not in employment, education or training. There is something tragically wrong that the skills and talents of so many of Britain’s young people are going to waste because they are simply struggling to get a foot in the door.
“The impact on young people looking for work must be soul destroying. Businesses must try and do more to provide opportunities for people to gain experience and employment.”
The program will be transmitted from 17 to 20 October 2011 on BBC Three.
The opportunity from Virgin Media could be exciting for those interested in a career in marketing. Simply Marketing Jobs has some great opportunities in available for those passionate about media marketing careers, however, you will probably not be getting your 15 minutes of fame on television with our vacancies.
