An infographic is an image created to show data or other information in a visual manner. Creating infographics can help you to present information in a more digestible and creative form.
“But how do I make one?” – that’s simple! All you need is the information you want to use, an idea of what design you want to use, and the perfect tool to create it!
Why am I doing it?
First, ask yourself why you want to create an infographic (p.s. The answer isn’t because you really want an infographic). Most marketers are keen to jump on a new trend, but like any other form of collateral you create, you should have a reason why an infographic is the best form of content to produce your information.
Delivering data is the perfect excuse to create an infographic. ‘Step by step’ information or ‘how to’ content can also be created as infographics. The most important thing to remember is, the less information the better. Keep sentences etc. short, let your figures stand out, and make sure the design is eye-catching.
How do I do it?
Once you’ve collected the information you need to create your infographic, the next step is to think about what sort of design you would like to use. There are a number of excellent tools online that provide templates you can use to create your infographic. Canva has a number of creative designs to get you started.
While templates are great, you will obviously want to put your mark on the design, so customise it to your company’s branding – make it original and select the right colours for you. Import your logo in to the design, and even your website address and telephone number. Perhaps it’s a seasonal infographic? Whatever the design, make sure you have a clear idea in your head before you start creating.
And one other thing, don’t forget to give credit where you can – if you’re using a lot of data from a credible source, it’s always worth including the link at the bottom of the infographic.
